Good Vibes RI – Local News That Uplifts and Empowers

Welcome to Good Vibes RI, your local happy news blog filled with positive stories to uplift and empower. My name is Eliza Spears, editor-in-chief and founder of Good Vibes RI. I am proud to be a 4th generation Rhode Islander. I started this project because so often news stories tend to ignite anger, fear, and sadness in their audience. I have witnessed neighborly love disintegrate when news articles are shared on local community pages. Connections between neighbors and friends deteriorate in comments sections when views differ from one another. I have been swept up in these currents more than once, finding myself full of impassioned emotions. After the dust settled I would come down from this emotional “high,” finding myself feeling depleted and, at times, depressed.

A while back, I stopped watching and reading the news altogether, unless it was shared with me directly. It doesn’t always work, but I try to avoid opening news articles that I know will cause me to feel negatively. Simply put, today’s news isn’t good for my mental health, and I doubt I am the only one experiencing this. Thanks to AI and “the algorithm,” my newsfeeds have slowly morphed into reels of silly pets, makeup tips and tricks, fashion advice, and, my personal favorite, articles on health and wellbeing. This is not to say I live under a rock. I do have ways of keeping up on the most pertinent topics, but generally, my life feels much less turbulent now.

I hope that Good Vibes RI will help bring back a sense of community to those who have lost that connection. At their core, I truly believe all people are doing the best they can with what they have. Good Vibes RI is meant to highlight that goodness and demonstrate that humanity is full of love, light, and hope. It is my intention to uplift and empower my community through shared messages of the beauty of humanity. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being here.
